What to Expect at a Paediatrics Appointment

We want every visit to be as smooth and reassuring as possible. Here is what happens when you bring your child to see us.

1
Arrive & Register Check in at the paediatrics reception. Bring your child's health record, vaccination card, and insurance or HMO card. Walk-in patients are always welcome.
2
Nursing Assessment Our child-friendly nursing team will take your child's weight, height, temperature, and vital signs, and note the reason for the visit before you see the doctor.
3
Doctor Consultation Your paediatrician will examine your child thoroughly and listen carefully to your concerns. We take all the time needed to ensure you understand the assessment and feel confident.
4
Investigations if Needed If blood tests, a malaria RDT, urine test, or X-ray are required, our in-house laboratory and radiology team will carry these out on the same day in most cases.
5

Frequently Asked Questions

What parents most often ask us about paediatric care at New Healing Stream Specialist Hospital.

Our Paediatrics Department sees children from birth — including newborn assessments in the first days of life — all the way through to 17 years of age. Adolescents aged 13 to 17 can receive confidential consultations on issues specific to their age group, such as puberty, mental wellness, and lifestyle health.
Both are welcome. You can book an appointment in advance by calling us, visiting in person, or using our online booking form. We also accept walk-in patients during our operating hours (Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm). For acutely unwell children, please come in promptly — we prioritise children who are visibly unwell.
Please bring your child's health/vaccination card, any previous medical reports or test results, a list of any medications the child is currently taking, your insurance or HMO card, and a comfort item for your child (such as a favourite toy or snack) to help them feel at ease during the visit.
We offer the full National Programme on Immunisation (NPI) schedule including BCG, Hepatitis B, OPV, Pentavalent, PCV, Rota, Measles, Yellow Fever, and Meningitis vaccines. We also offer additional vaccines including Varicella, HPV, influenza, and typhoid vaccines. Our immunisation unit operates Monday to Saturday and does not require an appointment for routine vaccines.
Every child develops at their own pace, but there are general milestones to watch for. Speak to our paediatrician if your child is not smiling by 3 months, not sitting unsupported by 9 months, not walking by 18 months, not saying any words by 12 months, or if you notice a loss of previously acquired skills at any age. Early assessment leads to early intervention and the best outcomes.
Yes. We accept all major HMO and private health insurance plans in Nigeria, including the NHIA/NHIS scheme. Please bring your child's insurance card or HMO letter. Our insurance desk will assist with pre-authorisation for any investigations. See our Private Health Insurance page for more information.
