Precision diagnostic imaging that underpins every great clinical decision. Our radiology team delivers accurate, timely imaging results using modern equipment — supporting every department across the hospital to deliver the best outcomes for patients.
The Radiology and Ultrasound Department at New Healing Stream Specialist Hospital provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic imaging services that support accurate clinical decision-making across all departments. Our department is staffed by experienced radiologists and imaging technologists who are committed to delivering high-quality, precise, and timely diagnostic results.
Diagnostic imaging is a cornerstone of modern medicine. Whether it is confirming a pregnancy, evaluating abdominal pain, assessing a suspected fracture, or investigating a complex internal condition, our imaging services provide the critical visual information that enables our clinical teams to diagnose accurately and treat effectively. We are equipped with modern ultrasound systems and X-ray facilities, and we work hand-in-hand with our clinical departments to ensure seamless integration of imaging into patient care pathways.
High Accuracy
Our radiologists produce detailed, carefully reported imaging results that give clinicians the confidence to diagnose and act decisively.
Rapid Reporting
Most scan results are reported and communicated to your doctor the same day, minimising delays in your diagnosis and treatment plan.
Patient-Centred
We explain each procedure clearly so patients feel comfortable and informed before, during, and after every imaging appointment.

What We Offer
Our Imaging Services
We provide a wide range of diagnostic imaging services for patients across all departments and age groups.
Obstetric UltrasoundAntenatal scans from early pregnancy through to fetal wellbeing assessment, fetal anomaly scans, and Doppler studies.
Abdominal & Pelvic UltrasoundEvaluation of liver, gallbladder, kidneys, spleen, pancreas, bladder, uterus, and ovaries for pain, masses, or pathology.
Thyroid & Neck UltrasoundHigh-resolution imaging of the thyroid gland, cervical lymph nodes, salivary glands, and soft tissue neck structures.
Musculoskeletal UltrasoundAssessment of tendons, ligaments, muscles, and joints for tears, tendinopathy, bursitis, and soft-tissue pathology.
Doppler Vascular StudiesColour Doppler imaging to assess blood flow in arteries and veins — useful for deep vein thrombosis and vascular disease evaluation.
EchocardiographyCardiac ultrasound performed in collaboration with the Cardiology Department to assess heart structure and function.
Chest & Skeletal X-RaysChest, spine, pelvis, and limb X-rays for assessment of fractures, pneumonia, cardiac size, bony lesions, and more.
Guided ProceduresUltrasound-guided aspirations, fluid drainage, and biopsy procedures performed by our radiologists in collaboration with clinical teams.
Our Equipment & Modalities
Imaging Technologies We Use
Our department is equipped with the following modern imaging modalities to support accurate diagnosis across all clinical areas.
Ultrasound
Real-time, radiation-free imaging using high-frequency sound waves — safe for all ages including pregnant women and newborns.
Routine & Urgent
X-Ray
Fast and widely used for fractures, chest conditions, skeletal assessment, and foreign body detection.
Urgent Available
Echocardiography
Cardiac ultrasound to assess heart valves, chambers, wall motion, and ejection fraction in collaboration with Cardiology.
By Referral
Doppler Studies
Colour and spectral Doppler for vascular flow assessment — DVT, arterial disease, and portal venous evaluation.
Routine
Pregnancy Scans
Full antenatal imaging including dating scans, anomaly scans, growth scans, and fetal wellbeing assessments.
All Trimesters
Guided Procedures
Ultrasound-guided aspirations, biopsies, and drainage procedures performed with precision and safety.

Before Your Scan
How to Prepare for Your Imaging Appointment
Preparation varies by scan type. Follow these guidelines to ensure the best possible image quality and avoid delays.
Abdominal / Pelvic Ultrasound
Fast for at least 4–6 hours before an abdominal scan (water is allowed)
For pelvic ultrasound, drink 1 litre of water 1 hour before and do not urinate — a full bladder is required
Wear loose, comfortable clothing for easy access to the scan area
Bring your referral letter or request form from your doctor
Obstetric (Pregnancy) Scans
For early pregnancy scans (before 12 weeks), a full bladder is needed — drink water and avoid urinating
For second and third trimester scans, no special preparation is usually required
Bring your antenatal card and any previous scan reports
You may bring a support person with you to the scan
X-Ray
No specific preparation is needed for most X-rays
Remove jewellery, piercings, and metal objects from the area being scanned
Inform the radiographer if you are or may be pregnant
Bring your referral letter — X-rays are not done without a doctor's request
Thyroid / Superficial Ultrasound
No fasting or special preparation is required
Wear a top with an open or low neckline to allow easy access to the neck
Remove any neck jewellery before your appointment
Bring any previous thyroid scan or blood test results if available
Fast, Reliable Result Turnaround
We understand that waiting for imaging results can be stressful. Our radiologists are committed to reporting scans promptly so your doctor can make clinical decisions without unnecessary delay. Emergency and urgent scans are prioritised and reported within the hour.
Answers to what patients most commonly ask about radiology and imaging at New Healing Stream Specialist Hospital.
Yes. All imaging at New Healing Stream Specialist Hospital is carried out based on a clinician's request. This ensures that the right scan is ordered for your condition, the images are interpreted in full clinical context, and results are properly communicated to the appropriate doctor. If you believe you need a scan and do not have a referral, please visit our Family Medicine or Internal Medicine department first.
Yes. Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves — not radiation — and is considered entirely safe for both mother and baby throughout all stages of pregnancy. Ultrasound is routinely recommended to monitor fetal growth, confirm dates, detect fetal abnormalities, and assess placenta and amniotic fluid. Our sonographers are specifically trained in obstetric ultrasound.
X-rays use a small amount of ionising radiation to produce images. The dose used in a standard diagnostic X-ray is very low and is considered safe for most adults. We always apply the ALARA principle — As Low As Reasonably Achievable — to keep radiation exposure minimal. We take special precautions with children and women who are or may be pregnant. Please always inform our team if there is any possibility of pregnancy before an X-ray.
Most ultrasound scans take between 15 and 30 minutes. Complex scans such as detailed anomaly scans, Doppler studies, or echocardiography may take 30 to 45 minutes. X-rays are typically completed in under 10 minutes. Please arrive on time and with any required preparation (such as a full bladder or fasting) completed in advance to avoid delays.
Most scans are reported the same day. Your radiologist will produce a written report which is sent to your referring doctor. For routine outpatient scans, results are usually available within 1 to 4 hours. Emergency and urgent scans are reported within 1 hour. Results are communicated to your doctor, who will then discuss the findings with you at your follow-up consultation.
